On July 30, 2008, Congress enacted the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act, or SAFE Act, that mandates nationwide licensing and registration of mortgage loan originators: the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System. Under the final rule, residential mortgage loan originators employed by federal credit unions must register with the Registry.
